BROKEN SPRINGS

Do not try to lift the door by hand or using the opener. You could hurt yourself or burn out the opener's motor. Replacing garage door springs is not DIY friendly. Replacement requires special tools and techniques to prevent injury. Utilizing the wrong size spring or springs can result in damage to the garage door and its components or even the electric garage door opener. Contact Jade Doors for more information or to schedule a service call.

We recommended that you oil the garage door spring and hinges at least twice per year using a good quality lubricant. You can purchase garage door lubricant at your local home improvement store like Home Depot or Lowes or from a garage door service company like Jade.

BROKEN CABLE

Automatic garage doors feature cables to assist door operation. These cables are robust, but wear and tear can eventually take its toll, causing the cables to lose tension, fray or snap. Your garage door employs different cables depending on what type of spring system it uses.

Lift cables are used with torsion springs. The cables are attached to the bottom corners of the door and routed to the torsion springs located above the door.

Retaining cables are used with extension springs. The cables run inside the springs, along the left and right sides of the garage door.

If your garage door is squeaking, shaking or operating strangely, this could mean a cable has snapped. Refrain from using the door again until a professional can take a look. Contact Jade Doors to schedule a service call.
